While everyone wants to be successful, not every person knows what it takes to make it to the top. Besides hard work and persistence, it’s equally important to have the right frame of mind.
We share a few tips on how to develop the right mindset for success:
Think big: In order to achieve your goals, you need to be able to visualise it in your mind first. Author David Schwartz in his book The Magic of Thinking Big rightly points out, “Eliminate the word impossible from your thinking and speaking vocabularies. Impossible is a failure word. The thought ‘It’s impossible’ sets off a chain reaction of other thoughts to prove you’re right.”
Write down your goal: Put down your goals in words in a big piece of paper-which is the first thing you see when you wake up and before you go to bed. Seeing your goals every single day reaffirms your faith in turning them into reality. For instance, write down how much money (amount) you are going to make within a certain time period (actual date). This exercise will keep you from lagging behind, whenever you feel demotivated. Most importantly, remember that this goal should be exactly what you want instead of what you want to portray or what others expect from you.
Don’t compare: Though it is great to have people in your life whom you look upto, do not get into the habit of constantly compare yourself with others. Remember that people who are in the top rung on the ladder of success today, started with nothing. When we measure ourselves against others, we look towards people who are more successful. And that should not lead us to feel inadequate or doubt our ability.
Have a morning routine: The most successful people start their day early and have established a simple morning routine over a period of time. Mornings are the best time to be productive because they are free of distractions and it is backed by research that one can get much more done in the early hours than in the rest of the day. You can even use this time to meditate or simply focus on yourself.
Be kind to yourself: Start talking to yourself like you would speak to your best friend, instead of being highly critical of yourself at every step. There are enough people on your way to success who are going to throw brickbats at you and try to bring you down. Always look at the bigger picture and don’t forget that it’s human to make mistakes on the path towards your goal.
